To WV for a Wedding

Last weekend Tiffani and I drove to West Virginia for Calvin and Allyson’s wedding, and it was a blast. The drive there sucked major, though, as our car lacks air conditioning. I have an awesome trucker’s tan as a result of this. First thing on the to-do list was meet Calvin and Adam in Charleston to pick up our tuxes. This was an hour past the hotel where the wedding is going to take place and as well where Adam and Christy are staying. This is also the first time I met Adam’s wife Christy and they’ve been together for quite a few years. I must make it a goal to visit friends more often.

On the way back I called Craig to inform him Calvin and Adam are in for the weekend and we all meet at Adam’s room at the lodge. First impression: wow. This room was by far the largest hotel room I’ve seen. Even the bathroom was impressive. I’ve literally stayed in a room smaller than that restroom, albeit in Japan. On the wall hung a 40+ inch LCD television, on which we connected an X-Box to play Halo. Jason, Craig, Adam, Calvin, and myself took part in a double elimination tournament while Tiffani, Christy, and Hope supplied morale. Needless to say Jason won, as usual, but I did make it to the final match against him.

About this time, and after a few drinks, Calvin works his way into the corner of the room. He wedged himself between the dresser and the wall where there was about two feet space. An observant Calvin than begins to digress how much wasted space there was in the corner. First he started with square foot space, and then moved into cubic feet in which a nice potted plant could fit. He was definitely feeling buzzed.

Tiffani and I stayed at my Mom’s house the first night. Upon arriving around 2AM first thing I noticed is the lack of an air conditioner in our old room. The house doesn’t have central air, so this was a bad thing. Tiffani and I still had all of our stuff in the room as we couldn’t afford a truck while moving and left with only a car load in July. I figured since we would be in that night someone would have the A/C on so the room would feel good. I was wrong. They had taken it out and placed it in their camper a few weeks prior and failed to return said object. So, here I am at the wee hours in the morning installing an A/C because I have difficulties breathing hot air at night. Only a few short hours later do I hear Mom’s boyfriend’s daughter’s 3 year old little girl stomping and screaming.

After a hectic night at Mom’s house we head over to the hotel for the rehearsal. Adam and I practiced our groomsman’s parts only a short while, until we had to tend to other issues. The sound in the reception area was terrible and the only thing worse was the employee’s attitudes. I went to the equipment room to turn the sound on so Adam and myself could work on making it sound better. This old lady barged in saying “You don’t need to be touching the equipment!” in the most arrogant tone. What does she think I am, a nub? She then started to spill nothing but nonsense. She rambled on about how a laptop would sound better when connected to the equipment, as opposed to a DVD player, and even managed to work in that S-Video sounds worse than a laptop. Who the hell is she and why did the hotel hire her to run the equipment? It’s not the peripheral connected device that was the issue, anyways. Adam and I nodded and smiled; that’s all you can do with a person who obviously knows everything. She went on to say they had a bid out to fix the equipment. I came oh so close to saying “I have an electrical engineering degree, let me get some tools and I’ll take a looksy.”

That night we finally took up Calvin on a several month old offer and took a room at the hotel. I really didn’t want to impose, which is why I had originally planned on staying at my mother’s house that weekend. But, one night there listening to everyone had me going the other direction. I made sure to pack up the air conditioner this time.

The wedding was gorgeous, the food was great, and another one of us is married. I didn’t take very many pictures, but I did steal a bunch from Christy’s site. Make sure to head over to her site to read her take on the events. Link to photos from the weekend follow. As for this post:

End.

  3. Thanks, I spent quite a bit of time working on this site’s design, maybe too much. I’ll give Craig your email address the next time I talk to him. But, if he would visit my site he would already know. lol. For right now we’re staying at her parents until I find a good job. I just finished college two months before we moved down here and trying to find a job without work experience sucks.
