Ingredients:
- 3 C. Flour (A Good Brand… it makes a difference!)
- 2 T. Vegetable Oil
- Buttermilk
- Butter (Preferably Spray Butter)
Instructions:
Preheat oven to 450 F.
Pour 2 cups of flour and 2 to 3 tablespoons of vegetable oil into a large bowl. Stir heavily with a large wooden spoon as you pour in buttermilk. Pour in a little at a time then stir some more. Keep doing this until you end up with what looks like a large dough ball.
Now the hard part. Tilt the bowl and get all of the dough into one side of the bowl. Take about a cup of flour and cover the dough, taking extra care to get most of it around the sides. Also cover your hands with flour as well, this will help with pinching. Now, start tucking in the flour around the dough ball until you are left with a large dough ball that is disconnected from the bowl itself. Make the dough ball slightly on the oblong side and start pinching off small hand fulls from either end of the ball. With your hands powdered with flour, make a rounded, yet slightly flattened, dough ball. Place these dough balls on a dark cooking pan up against each other.
Put the pan in the oven. After they start rising and you can tell they are firm, take them out and spray them throughly with the spray butter. If you don’t have spray butter, melt a little butter in the microwave and brush it on. Place the pan back in the oven. When the biscuits are a golden color on top they are done.
Servings:
Makes about 7 to 8 biscuits. Serve while hot. These are great to split in half and serve with sausage gravy on top. Or even split with butter in between.
